Configure Safety Stock
Safety stock represents an additional quantity of an item held in the inventory to reduce the risk that the item will go out of stock. In the context of omnichannel fulfillment, safety stock ensures that not all retail inventory is promised online.
Safety stock levels can be configured at either the Inventory Organization The entity that owns the inventory. One Inventory Organization can have many Sellers; a Seller can have only one Inventory Organization. level or at the Seller A seller is part of an organization. It can represent a sales channel, geographic region, or line of business. Organizations can have more than one seller, but a seller can have only one organization. level. The level is set before launch; it cannot be changed. When safety stock is set at the Inventory Organization A business entity that... level, the safety stock levels you define affect all of Sellers in the organization. When safety stock is set at the Seller level, you can define separate safety stock levels for each Seller in the Inventory Organization. To configure safety stock for items in your organization's inventory:
- Click or tap the icon in the upper-left corner. The Main Menu appears.
- Click or tap Omni Administration. The Omni Administration submenu appears.
- Click or tap Inventory Availability. The Inventory Availability submenu appears.
Click or tap Safety Stock An additional quantity of an item held in the inventory to reduce the risk that the item will be out of stock. From this screen, you can edit or delete existing safety stock configurations, or add a new configuration.
Search for a Safety Stock Configuration
- To display the safety stock configurations that you've already defined, use the Search panel on the left of the Manage Safety Stock Configuration screen.
- Select a Safety Stock Condition Type Specifies the level at which the safety stock is defined, such as node/item level, node type/item level, and so on. from the dropdown. The Safety Stock Condition Type specifies if Safety Stock is defined at the Node A fulfillment location. Can be a distribution center, dropshipper, or retail store./Item level, Node Type Indicates the kind of node; for example, Retail Store, Distribution Center, Dropshipper, and so on./Item level, Node Type level or Supply Type Identifies whether inventory is On Hand or Future Inventory (PO, INTRANSIT, and so on). level. Depending on the Condition Type you select, you'll see different search options. The Condition Types and associated search options are:
- NODE ITEM: Reserve a quantity or percentage for a specific item at a specific node, and for a specific fulfillment type, by supply type.
- NODE TYPE ITEM: Reserve a quantity or percentage for a specific item and fulfillment type, by node type and supply type.

- Enter your search criteria. All search criteria are optional, but your search will be more accurate if you enter one or more criteria.
- Click or tap the Search button. A list of your safety stock configurations appears. The columns in the list depend on the Condition Type.
Delete a Safety Stock Configuration
- To delete a safety stock configuration, click or tap the icon in the Actions column of the rule that you want to delete. The system prompts you to confirm the deletion.
- Click or tap the Continue button to delete the rule; otherwise, click the Cancel button.
If you delete a safety stock configuration, you cannot recover it. You must recreate it.
Edit a Safety Stock Configuration
- To edit a rule, click or tap the icon in the Actions column of the rule that you want to modify. The Edit Safety Stock Configuration screen appears.
- You can update the following fields:
- Safety Stock Type (Percentage or Quantity)
- Safety Stock Value
You cannot change any other value.
- When you finish modifying the safety stock configuration, click or tap the Save button.
Add a Safety Stock Configuration
- To add a new safety stock configuration, select the Safety Stock Condition Type in the Seach section on the Manage Safety Stock Configuration screen.
- Click or tap the Add button on the Manage Safety Stock Configuration screen. The Add Safety Stock Configuration screen appears, showing the Condition Type that you selected. The fields on this screen depend on the Condition Type.
NODE ITEM Condition Type
This condition type reserves a quantity or percentage for a specific item at a specific node and for a specific fulfillment type, by supply type. This rule has the highest priority rule. If you configure this rule for an item, any other rules that specify the item are ignored. If you select the NODE ITEM Condition Type, the following screen appears.
- In the General Information section, enter the Item ID and Node ID. If you don't know these IDs, click or tap the Lookup buttons to display search pop-ups.
- Select the Fulfillment Type Id:
- Select the Supply Type Id:
- HELD A supply type that means store fulfillment items were declined for lack of inventory. Immediately after the decline for that node, inventory status is switched to HELD to prevent more sales, cause delays that require resourcing, or avoid cancellation of the fulfillment order.
- INTRANSIT A supply type that means supply is in transit to the node.
- ONHAND A supply type that means supply is available to be sold.
- PO A supply type that means purchase order.
- PO_PLACED
- PO_RELEASED
- In the Safety Stock section, select the Safety Stock Type:
- PERCENTAGE
- QUANTITY
- Enter the Safety Stock value.
- Click or tap the Save button.
NODE TYPE ITEM Condition Type
This condition type reserves a quantity or percentage for a specific item and fulfillment type, by node type and supply type. This rule has Priority 2. If you configure this rule, any lower-priority safety stock rules that include the item are ignored. If you select the NODE TYPE ITEM Condition Type, the following screen appears.
- In the General Information section, enter the Item ID and Node Type ID. If you don't know the Item ID, click or tap the Lookup button to display a search pop-up.
- Select the Fulfillment Type Id:
- SHIP_TO_STORE
- SHIP_TO_HOME
- STORE_PICKUP (ISPU)
- Select the Supply Type Id:
- HELD
- INTRANSIT
- ONHAND
- PO
- PO_PLACED
- PO_RELEASED
- In the Safety Stock section, select the Safety Stock Type:
- PERCENTAGE
- QUANTITY
- Enter the Safety Stock value.
- Click or tap the Save button.
GLOBAL NODE TYPE Condition Type
This condition type reserves a quantity or percentage for a specific fulfillment type, by node type and supply type. This rule has Priority 3. If you configure this rule, any lower-priority safety stock rules are ignored. If you select the GLOBAL NODE TYPE Condition Type, the following screen appears.
- In the General Information section, enter the Node Type.
- Select the Fulfillment Type Id:
- SHIP_TO_STORE
- SHIP_TO_HOME
- STORE_PICKUP (ISPU)
- Select the Supply Type Id:
- HELD
- INTRANSIT
- ONHAND
- PO
- PO_PLACED
- PO_RELEASED
- In the Safety Stock section, select the Safety Stock Type:
- PERCENTAGE
- QUANTITY
- Enter the Safety Stock value.
- Click or tap the Save button.
GLOBAL SUPPLY TYPE Condition Type
This condition reserves a quantity or percentage of all inventory by supply type. This rule has Priority 4. If you configure this rule, any lower-priority safety stock rules are ignored. If you select the GLOBAL SUPPLY TYPE Condition Type, the following screen appears.
- In the General Information section, enter the Supply Type ID:
- HELD
- INTRANSIT
- ONHAND
- PO
- PO_PLACED
- PO_RELEASED
- In the Safety Stock section, select the Safety Stock Type:
- PERCENTAGE
- QUANTITY
- Enter the Safety Stock value.
- Click or tap the Save button.
NODE TYPE ITEM ATTRIBUTE Condition Type
This condition type reserves a quantity or percentage for a specific category, for a node type, and for a specific fulfillment type, by supply type. This rule has Priority 5. If you select the NODE TYPE ITEM ATTRIBUTE Condition Type, the following screen appears.

- Select the Fulfillment Type Id:

- SHIP_TO_HOME

This condition type reserves a quantity or percentage for a specific category, for a specific node, and for a specific fulfillment type, by supply type. This rule has Priority 6. If you select the NODE ITEM ATTRIBUTE Condition Type, the following screen appears.
- In the General Information section, enter:

- Select the Fulfillment Type Id:

- In the Safety Stock section, select the Safety Stock Type:

- Enter the Safety Stock value.
- Click or tap the Save button.
AGGREGATED GLOBAL Condition Type
This condition type reserves a quantity or percentage of all items across all of the inventory. Note: You can use this rule only if the Safety Stock Rule Level for your Inventory Organization is set to SELLER.
If you select the AGGREGATED GLOBAL Condition Type, the following screen appears:
- Ensure that the Safety Stock Rule Level is set to the correct Seller. If it is incorrect, select the Seller from the list in your profile.
- In the Safety Stock section, select the Safety Stock Type:
- PERCENTAGE
- QUANTITY
- Enter the Safety Stock value.
- Click or tap the Save button.
If you use this rule, do not configure any of the other rules.
AGGREGATED GLOBAL NODE TYPE Condition Type
This condition type reserves a quantity or percentage of all items across a specified node type; for example, retail stores or DCs. Note: You can use this rule only if the Safety Stock Rule Level for your Inventory Organization is set to Seller.
If you select the AGGREGATED GLOBAL NODE TYPE Condition Type, the following screen appears:
- In the General section, select the Node Type from the dropdown. The available node types depend on your implementation.
- Ensure that the Safety Stock Rule Level is set to the correct Seller. If it is incorrect, select the Seller from the list in your profile.
- In the Safety Stock section, select the Safety Stock Type:
- PERCENTAGE
- QUANTITY
- Enter the Safety Stock value.
- Click or tap the Save button.
If you use this rule, do not configure any of the other rules.
AGGREGATED GLOBAL NODE TYPE ITEM Condition Type
This condition type reserves a quantity or percentage of an item across a specified node type; for example, retail stores or DCs. Note: You can use this rule only if the Safety Stock Rule Level for your Inventory Organization is set to Seller.
If you select the AGGREGATED GLOBAL NODE TYPE ITEM Condition Type, the following screen appears:
- In the General section, click or tap the Lookup button to search for and select the item.
- Select the Node Type from the dropdown. The available node types depend on your implementation.
- Ensure that the Safety Stock Rule Level is set to the correct Seller. If it is incorrect, select the Seller from the list in your profile.
- In the Safety Stock section, select the Safety Stock Type:
- PERCENTAGE
- QUANTITY
- Enter the Safety Stock value.
- Click or tap the Save button.
If you use this rule, do not configure any of the other rules.
AGGREGATED GLOBAL NODE TYPE ITEM ATTRIBUTE Condition Type
This condition type reserves a quantity or percentage of a specific category across a specified node type; for example, retail stores or DCs. Note: You can use this rule only if the Safety Stock Rule Level for your Inventory Organization is set to Seller.
If you select the AGGREGATED GLOBAL NODE TYPE ITEM ATTRIBUTE Condition Type, the following screen appears:
- In the General section, select the Item Attribute from the dropdown.
- Select the Node Type from the dropdown. The available node types depend on your implementation.
- Enter the Value of the Item Attribute.
- Select the Node Type from the dropdown. The available node types depend on your implementation.
- Ensure that the Safety Stock Rule Level is set to the correct Seller. If it is incorrect, select the Seller from the list in your profile.
- In the Safety Stock section, select the Safety Stock Type:
- PERCENTAGE
- QUANTITY
- Enter the Safety Stock value.
- Click or tap the Save button.
